About The Clan Association

Clan Moffat UK & Eire was formed in June 2000. Our aims are to achieve recognition of the role played by Moffats in the history and culture of Scotland and encourage research into those families bearing the Moffat surname, however it is spelt, through the mutual exchange of information and to give assistance where possible.

The group is open to anyone with Moffat ancestors: not only those bearing the name.

We produce a newsletter twice a year –in October and April – which is circulated to all ‘paid-up’ members. In this we keep you informed of events that may be of interest to you so that you may plan them into your diaries for the following six months and perhaps have articles about family histories, places or churches of interest to our members.

Clan Moffat UK & Eire is a non-profit making association and any surplus funds will be used to expand membership, purchase books or records of importance to the family historian and maintain a presence at relevant events.

To join, please complete the Membership Form and Pedigree Chart and send them together with your subscription to the Membership Secretary.

Combined Moffat Database Now Live!

The Gathering Edinburgh 2009

The Gathering 2009 on 25-26 July will be one of the major events of Homecoming Scotland.

It is primarily a celebration of the contribution that the clans have made to the culture and history of Scotland, and will be one of the largest Clan gatherings ever witnessed. A series of unique events is being designed to commemorate the occasion. It is estimated that there will be over 80 clan tents, with clan members from around the world. The special clan ceremony will take the form of a clan parade on the Royal Mile culminating in a unique clan pageant on the magnificent esplanade of Edinburgh Castle.

It was agreed at the AGM held at Moffat in August 2007 that we should attend this memorable occasion, when all Scottish clans will be taking part. Put the date in your diary and keep it free to attend with members of Clan Moffat! We will have a Clan tent.
